Using 2 Scala G9 Headsets With a Sena SM10 Dual Music Transmitter

Why Use The Sena SM10?After a few months delay Sena has finally introduced their SM10, a dual music Bluetooth transmitter. This allows 2 up riding with Bluetooth headsets to conveniently use one music source, such as a Zumo with XM radio, a single phone with Pandora or any other music device which may or may not have Bluetooth capabilities. In the case that the music device, such as an iPhone, does have Bluetooth it could only be paired with one headset so the rider and passenger cannot hear the same music easily. With the new Sena SM10 any music device with a headphone jack or other audio output cable can be connected via 1/8" cable to the SM10 and the Sena SM10 can then be paired to two headsets of any brand so long as the headsets accept an A2DP stereo connection. How to Pair It with Two Scala Rider G9 Headsets? The SM10 has a simple pairing process. It has an on / off sliding switch and one button. Once on, hold the button for 5 seconds to enter pairing mode for Channel A which is indicated by a flashing blue light. Hold the button 9 seconds to enter pairing mode for Channel B. Note that at 5 seconds the blue light flashes indicating Channel A pairing however continuing to hold until the red light flashes indicating pairing mode for Channel B does not affect the previously paired Channel A connection.Using the Sena SM10 with Scala G9 PowersetOnce paired, the music source can be plugged into the "Audio" port of the SM10 and the music can be heard in both headsets. The headsets will behave as if they each had their own music device and you can interrupt the music for phone conversations or intercom connections. After the other conversations are ended the Scala Rider G9 headsets will go back to the music. The SM10 also has an "Aux" port which can be used for radar detectors or GPS signals. You should be aware however, that as music connection the SM10 has the lowest priority on the Scala G9 list so if you are having an intercom or phone conversation you will totally miss the radar detector or GPS alert. If you are listening to music the SM10 will simply mix the signals (no prioritization or delay) and you will hear the prompt / alert come through at the same time as the music. For this reason we suggest having the volume turned up quite high on the device being fed into the Aux port so that the signal is clear.Cool FeatureSena includes a 3 pole 1/8" patch cord and a 4 pole 1/8" patch cord. If you are using an AVRCP device such as your phone or MP3 player using the 4 pole cord allows you to control (skip and repeat tracks) the music device from your Scala G9 headset. This is a common feature when the headsets are paired directly to the phone but we were quite pleased and impressed when we found we could do it through the SM10 to the phone. Also, skipping or repeating tracks can be done from either of the Cardo G9 headsets.TroubleshootingWhile testing we turned off and on one or both headsets to see if they would reconnect (without pairing) and the music would continue to play. In several instances after cycling power to one of the three devices only one headset would reconnect properly and we could not get both headsets to play music. When this happened turning off the SM10 and then back on would sometimes fix the issue while other times we had to turn off both headsets and then turn them back on before we could get the music playing properly out of both headsets.
